Men Behaving Badly
Men Behaving Badly
This week ITV has been filming here for a new television series - The Islands of Britain - presented by the comedian and actor Martin Clunes.
Martin Clunes made his name in the situation comedy Men Behaving Badly, about the raucous activities of two lads sharing a flat. In real life that same rapid fire sense of humour is very evident. Recently, he starred in the lead role in the highly successful comedy drama series "Doc Martin", gaining 10 million viewers. It was produced by his own production company Buffalo Pictures that he runs with his wife. In 2007 he won Most Popular Actor in the National Television Awards.
While waiting to film the fourth series in 2009 Clunes took the opportunity to travel around the UK for The Islands of Britain series, finding what makes these remote and far flung communities tick, including the islands of Barra, Uist, Eigg, Man and Scilly.
While on Islay, as well as our distillery where Clunes has been taking an active part in the distillation process, making a cask of his own whisky, they have filmed Gus Newman and his boat-building, diving on a wreck, Ailsa's soaps, a bacchanalian farmer's dinner in a remote byre, Chloe's rare breed pigs and others. The program makers were surprised by the level of entrepreneurial activity on Islay compared to other islands they visited.
Islands of Britain is due to be broadcast later this year.
