Springbank Goes Silent
Springbank Goes Silent
In a surprising decision, the famous Cambeltown distillery, producers of the excellent Springbank single malt and the rare Longrow single malt whiskies, has decided to stop distillation for a period of up to two years, according to a company spokesman quoted in the Sunday Herald. Blaming spiraling costs of barley and fuel, the enigmatic, family-owned distillery has consequently made 7 of the 42 staff redundant. Springbank distills 150,000 litres of new spirit a year.
