DEFRA and the SWA
DEFRA and the SWA
It would appear that Defra are taking all the objections to blended malt seriously.
Though it is accepted that they are on a "steep learning curve", one that I am not at all sure they will succeed in mastering. However one nugget that reached me was that It seems DEFRA do not wish the term “Single Malt Scotch Whisky” to apply unless the whisky has been matured (in its entirety?) at the distillery.
If that is indeed the case (somehow I doubt it) that would cause a slight problem for certain distillers whose warehouses are either no longer in existence or whose spirit is tankered away for centralised storage. And imagine if it was to be retrospective?
