LVMH to spend £45M on Distilleries
French luxury goods group Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy (LVMH) has announced a £45 million pound investment in it's distilling operations - whisky ones that is.
The owners of The Glenmorangie Company also own over 50 luxury brands including Dior, is to sell their 33-acre Broxburn bottling facility to Diageo (having withdraw from blended Scotch whisky) and are to sell the Glen Moray Distillery at Elgin possibly to Whyte & Mackay
The £45 million will be spent on a new bottling facility, an increase in distilling capacity at Glenmorangie, the relocation of headquarters to Edinburgh, and new cask warehouses at Ardbeg - as well as another restyling of the visitor centre.
Good to see that the warehouses are going to be done up - more Islay maturation. I do hope they will use the sad, old, derelict sites - these always reminds me of the hopeless old Allied days. I rather liked the current visitor centre which was done up in the £3m upgrade in 1996 You can bet your bottom dollar that all that LVMH chic style and experience will be brought to bare and it should look magnificent. Odd how after a century of total non-investment two mind-boggling sums are spent on it in a decade.
Bet they won't have an internal water feature like ours.
