A Regal Splash
A Regal Splash
Last night the streets of Glasgow ran with whisky.
A lorry, loaded with barrels of spirit destined for Chivas Regal, flipped over on to its side spilling 15,000 litres of blended whisky all over the road. The vehicle was trying to make a sharp bend (or should that be a 'tight' turn) having exited the Clyde Tunnel in Glasgow. Strathclyde Police said: "The lorry, was seen to lurch to the right, then lurch to the left, before it finally tipped over on to its side."
The driver was treated with smelling salts.
The Fire and Rescue service isolated 'any possible ignition sources' and attempted to stop the contents of the burst barrels from entering the drains. The road was closed while firefighters pumped foam on to the flammable spirit to prevent combustion, and some say to prevent locals from hoovering up the escaping whisky.
The police claim that the wild street celebrations witnessed in the vicinity were as a result of Glasgow Rangers victory over Fiorentina to reach the UEFA cup final for the first time, and were not in any way connected to the incident.
